The galley was also modified and includes a sideboard next to the refrigerator,opposite is large Dinette Table.   Aft to port is the large head with shower (new shower head).   Opposite is sit down nav Station with Large aft cabin behind.

• KEEL: 6500lb (2950kg) OF LEAD. IS THRUBOLTED WITH 11 BOLTS OF 1” – 316 L SS. ACCORDING TO ONE OF LLOYDS RULES, BOLTS CAN BE RETRACTED FOR INSPECTION. THEY PASS THROUGH 316 L SS TUBES FIXED IN THE HULL TO AID DISTRIBUTION OF FORCES IN THIS AREA. THERE IS AN ADITIONAL REENFORCEMENT ALONG THE HULL IN ORDER TO SUPPORT HIGH IMPACT ON THE KEEL.
• Hull: 6 LAYERS OF BRASILIAN MAHOGANY VENEERS (1/8) EPOXY SATURATED AND PLACED DIAGONALLY OVER CEDAR STRIPS (7/16 – 5/8) RUNING LONGITUDINALLY FORE AND AFT. THICKNESS IS 1”3/16 (30MM) ABOVE AND 1”7/8 (35MM) BELOW WATERLINE. THIS CONSTRUCTION RESULTS IN A STRONGER AND MORE RIGID HULL IN COMPARISON TO THE SAME WEIGHT IN FIBERGLASS, WITH PROVEN PROLONGED DURABILITY AND NO SPECIAL MAINTENANCE REQUIRED.

• Equipment: In 1999, she was purchased by Capn R. Craig Chipman, a well known tall ship skipper and ancient mariner. His love of the sea, sailing expertise, shipwright abilities and extensive knowledge of maritime history made them a perfect match. She was renamed "Caroline Rose" in memory of his previous vessel, the 132 ft Nova Scotia built schooner Caroline Rose. His vision was to return her back into a research vessel, teaching children the importance of the sea and her preservation, as well as passing on his extensive knowledge of rigging and ancient mariner skills. ultimately, plans were drawn up to alter her design as a replica of a Baltimore Clipper.

• In 1942, she ws purchased by the Maritime Commission, renamed and commissioned the USS John M. Howard (IX: 75) in honor of a late Navy ensign. Assigned to the Washington navy yard for duty under the Bureau of Ordinance, she was outfitted as a floating photographic laboratory. During the war, the vessel was used for ordinance experiements. in January of 1943, she departed Washington for 100 days of experimental operations on the Atlantic coast. In 1945, she was decommissioned and placed in service until November of that year.
