  • In 1942, she ws purchased by the Maritime Commission, renamed and commissioned the USS John M. Howard (IX: 75) in honor of a late Navy ensign. Assigned to the Washington navy yard for duty under the Bureau of Ordinance, she was outfitted as a floating photographic laboratory. During the war, the vessel was used for ordinance experiements. in January of 1943, she departed Washington for 100 days of experimental operations on the Atlantic coast. In 1945, she was decommissioned and placed in service until November of that year.
  • A u: shaped galley is equipped with a two burner LPG stove, large icebox, large sink with hot/cold running water, abundant locker storage and beautifully finished Granicote surfaces.
  • The forward cabin offers a large v: berth, hanging locker, shelved storage and under bunk storage. The main cabin has full length settees on either side fitted with contoured cushions. The cabinetry includes a removable table and a full navigation station, all finished in rich cherry wood. The head compartment is forward of the salon and adjacent to the forward stateroom. A private aft cabin features a large double bunk and ample locker storage. The cockpit is roomy and efficiently laid out to accommodate crewed or short handed sailing.
